Malaika Animation Premier is Live!

YouNeek Studios have done it again! The award-winning Nigerian creatives who have given us globally acclaimed graphic novels such as E.X.O and Windmaker, have converted their famed Malaika into an animation. Like all their other projects, Malaika is inspired by real African kingdoms, rulers and culture.

Queen Malaika's character was inspired by Hausa Warrior Queen Amina Mohamud from the 16th Century

Set in 1499 in the West African Empire of Azzaz, the historical fantasy epic chronicles the reign of Queen Malaika as she navigates her way through diplomatic landmines and bitter combat. All for the benefit of her people and empire.

Written, Produced and Directed by Roye Okupe, this animation has been years in the making. It’s been produced in partnership with Lagos- based, Anthill Studios and features an ensemble cast of Nollywood giants Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Femi Branch, Deyemi Okanlowon, Sambasa Nzeribe and Blossom Chukwujekwu.

YouNeek Studios are still garnering support to produce a series. Which, based on the pilot, is most likely to be compelling. Enjoy following their progress by subscribing to their app and purchasing their graphic novels.
