October Fun!

In the Southern Hemisphere, spring is synonymous with weddings. If you have not yet been invited to or attended a wedding thus far, something is amiss. However, in the flurry of waltzes to alters, social scenes are exploding with parties, festivals and all manners of merriment. Here are but a few for you to plug into. Just do us the favour of partying and driving responsibly.

Kicking off festivities is one of South Africa’s favourite music and lifestyle festivals, Rocking the Daisies happening from 04 - 06 October on Cloof Wine Estate in Cape Town. Also by the same organisers, In The City will be the inner-city celebration warming up Johannesburg on 6 October. Macufe, top annual arts and culture festival soul is warming up Mangaung, Free State province from 04 - 12 October. This year is being headlined by local giants like Lira, Thandiswa Mazwai and Mafikizolo alongside International favourites such as Deborah Cox and Kirk Whalum. If you are keen on Kwa-Zulu Natal’s biggest craft beer festival of the year, make your way to Hoptoberfest on Sat 05 October. Whereas lovers of champagne, bubbly and fashion can make their way to The Bubbly Festival at Shimmy Beach, Cape Town. If your mind is more attuned to fun with the family (or as an individual) can dance your way to a refreshing Secret Sunrise in different cities on 17, 19, 25, 30 and 31 October.

In terms of spreading some goodwill, the Little Big Souls Angel Ball fundraiser will be hosted at the Marriott in Accra on 26 October. All proceeds will go towards saving the lives of premature babies in Ghana; which would be an evening well spent! In Nairobi, Kenya the One Off Contemporary Art Gallery will be hosting a group exhibition called Objects, Space, Movement and Facades from 17 October- 12 November. The Night Market will bring some buzz to Gaborone, Botswana on 19 October. Lastly, the Kenyan Premier of the award-winning documentary Kifaru will take place on 24 October at the Trademark Hotel.
